An Englishman named Robert Leggat has compiled and excellent site on the history of photography from 1839 to 1920. Check it out here.

I received my first camera in 1958 when I was nine years old. I began taking pictures of everything. By the time I was in college, I realized that I could photograph anything I could see, and get the results I wanted, so it was time to start learning to see better.

I managed a camera store for several years before opening a custom photo lab. I added a photography museum, a portrait studio, and frame shop before selling the business in 1996.

I have since opened a commercial photography studio, written a guidebook to digital photography, and decided that I need to start sharing my fifty plus years of experience with others who want to be better photographers.

I know from experience that the best way to learn is one-on-one or in small groups where there is a lot of interaction. That is why my photography classes are centered around one to one coaching, photo safaris at various locations, and small classes.

I can take the time to find out where you are in your photography experience and help you move to the next level.

What others have said:

"This was the best workshop I’ve ever attended --- you provided so much practical knowledge. The one-on-one was great, as it meant the class was tailored for my needs. Thanks again." Lisa S.

"I learned so much in the eight hours I spent with you. I can't thank you enough for your help and input. I've been reading what you wrote and I like it very much. You are a great teacher, are patient, have a great sense of humor, and are an expert in your field.

Please let me know the cost of the field trips. I am looking forward to going and learning more. Thanks again." Pam W.

"I want to let you know how helpful it was to spend a couple of hours with a professional photographer and learn much about the basics of storing and managing digital photos. I am an amateur photographer who never really embraced the digital age of photography. I realize many of the benefits of having a digital image at my disposal to edit, print or even delete. What I did not understand was some of the basics of managing my photos and which photo management and editing programs I could potentially use from free downloads to more expensive software.

Jim Mathis is passionate about photography and an extremely creative and talented photographer. I am excited that he has expanded his business to include a photography school and I believe many will benefit from his knowledge and expertise, like I have in my introductory session. I am planning to enroll in more of his classes and would highly recommend his school to anyone who wants to increase their skills in and enjoyment of photography." Nedra M.

Are you ready to take your photography to the next level?

Would spending a day, two, or more, one-on-one, with a professional photographer change the way you approach photography?

We offer one-on-one intermediate to advanced classes designed to take you from where you are to where you want to be in photography. Regardless of your current skill level, Jim can help you make better photographs.

The cost for an all day, one-on-one session, is $250. We recommend at least one day, with two or three days being ideal, to help you take the next step in your photography skills.

If you are serious about becoming a better photographer, this may be the best money you have ever spent.

Call now to schedule a day.
